Mostly Politics, Don't Hate Me?

[I must be attracting the right people to my journal or maybe just former service industry types. Almost all of you tip 20%. I believe how much someone tips tells a lot about their generosity, etc.]
Warning: Some of you may be offended. Please don't be narcissistic or paranoid and think I singled You out. There are some political blogs that I read and comment on. One of my faves is Libertarian's. And, no, I am not a Libertarian. I believe Libertarian actually does have some real experience with politics and the government.
I got into a discussion with a former political junkie the other night. I don't understand why some people constantly talk about politics, yet most of these people do nothing to change the state of things.
It is akin to a Masters candidate majoring in philosophy, though, she doesn't have any plan to actually use her degree--not wanting to do research, teach, write etc.
There's nothing wrong with this, but if you were talking philosophy with this student, and she had very strong feelings about Kant's philosophies--yet didn't try to implement these ideas in her own life, wouldn't it seem a tad hypocritical.
We can easily create bubble worlds for ourselves talking about ideas, but often if we haven't experienced the situation we're kind of talking out of our you-know-whats.
I can make judgments and opinions about what it's like to be an astronaut, but I couldn't really know until I experienced it.
I know I'm making some broad generalizations and I've been guilty of being all talk and no action. When I was in high school, I did a lot of things (donating my time, etc.) for the environmental causes I believed in. I even stood in front of a grocery store for hours getting signatures for a ballot initiative. I don't do any community service now. (Well, last Christmas I did for one day.) I think about doing it, but it never happens. This apathy is not something I am proud of.
If any of you actually put in work for political related causes you feel passionate about, please leave a comment.
