Jin Patisserie (Venice)
Part of: Food , LA
Jin Patisserie is one of my favorite places in LA. It’s a tea garden in Venice where you can pretend is your own backyard. A converted craftsman house is where the small restaurant and sweets shop resides with a lovely front garden. The garden recently received a mini-facelift. More foliage was added along with some banquet seating and added patio chairs—my favorite. A small cake du jour comes with most of the entrees. Spring Bouquet is a popular cake served on the weekend consisting of mango, strawberries, passion fruit, meringue and cream. It’s like eating a dream and melts in your mouth. It’s the cake that I wish all wedding receptions served. Recently, I tried the Mascarpone Banana cake and wasn’t disappointed. Banana pastries often have a cloying taste that I can’t stand. In this cake, the bananas were blended seamlessly with the mascarpone and caramel for a more delicate taste. The sea salt caramels are also to die for.
Note: I found the Spring Bouquet recipe here for those of you who can't visit the tea house.
